Did you get hooked on the Walter White story? You can find many similar TV series streaming. Here's what they are
Breaking Bad is one of the most popular TV series in recent years. Created by Vince Galligan, it has been broadcast in the United States and the rest of the world since 2008.
The plot is centered on the character of Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a chemistry teacher who discovers he has a tumor and in order to support the treatment and help his family begins to produce and sell methamphetamine. The professor to achieve this goal relies on an old student of his, Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) and other figures, such as the lawyer Saul Goodman. As time goes by the couple formed by the student and the professor manages to expand the production, but things get out of hand and season after season we witness a real descent into hell, until a spectacular finale. Those who loved Breaking Bad and is looking for a similar show can find several alternatives in streaming: here is a selection.
Better call Saul
We start with the spin off of Breaking Bad dedicated to the irreverent lawyer of the mother series Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkrik).
The show takes place years before the meeting with Walter and Jessie and thus tells the origins of Saul but also his previous relationship with other characters of the TV series, in particular Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Ray Banks) and Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito).
In the content, hilarious moments alternate, where the protagonist is precisely the lawyer, to moments of high tension, which also characterized the parent series.
The five seasons of Better Call Saul are available on Netflix.
Narcos
Narcos reveals the evolution of drug cartels and the activities of law enforcement to curb their spread and limit their power. The protagonist is Steve Murphy the DEA agent who is sent from the United States on a mission to Colombia and together with the anti-drug agent Javier Peña is called to participate in a very challenging mission: to find and kill Pablo Escobar, the head of the Medellìn Cartel, one of the most important cocaine bosses in the world.
This will be a real undertaking, which will bring the anti-drug team to confront the harsh laws of the Mexican Cartel.
The first two seasons are based on the true story of Pablo Esbobar, the most famous cocaine trafficker in history, nicknamed precisely the King of Cocaine. The title has won many awards, including a nomination in 2016 at the Bafta.
The three seasons of Narcos are available on Netflix.
Disjointed
We come to an irreverent and offbeat TV series, much more ironic and funny than the first ones. The protagonist is Ruth Whitefeather Feldman, played by Kathy Bates, an activist who after fighting for years for the legalization of cannabis has taken over a dispensary of medical marijuana, called "Ruth's Alternative Cure".
In the story we find other funny characters, who are undoubtedly affected by Ruth's decisions, including her son Travis and the employees of the store, as well as the creator of a very special variety of cannabis. Together they participate in a choral series, which deals with several important issues in an entertaining way, including the therapeutic use of cannabis, the management of post-traumatic stress disorder, as well as the internal relationships of the family. So the series proves to be a nice mix of lightness and depth, to be watched all in one go.
Part 1 and 2 of Disjointed is available on Netflix.
Finally, if you're on the hunt for a feature film to watch on a relaxing evening on the couch, again on Netflix you can watch El Camino, the Breaking Bad movie.
